Description

A complete introduction to the theory of sailing. This RYA Day Skipper Theory Course equips you with enough knowledge to sail familiar waters during the day. It includes a basic knowledge of lights to introduce you to night sailing.

Duration: The course is delivered over 40 hours with two exams over 5 intensive days.

Syllabus

Course topics include:
-Seamanship basics.
-Coastal navigation and pilotage essentials.
-Chartwork.
-Electronic charts.
-Plotting a course to steer.
-Weather forecasting and meteorology.
-Tides and tidal streams.
-Collision regulations.
-Construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat.
-Emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, etc.
-Safety harnesses, lifejackets and life-rafts.

Expedition

At the end of this course, if you pass the written exam, you will obtain a Day Skipper Theory Certificate.
